Psychological Associates Consultant Lauren LaBat Successfully Defends Dissertation
Everyone at Psychological Associates would like to wish a warm congratulations to Lauren LaBat, Ph.D., for completing her Doctorate degree in Psychology, with an emphasis in Industrial Organizational Psychology at the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
Lauren’s thesis, entitled “The Dreaded Performance Appraisal: Can the Process Ever Be Comfortable?” was successfully defended on November 2, 2018.
“I wanted to look at why performance appraisals are so unpleasant for people,” Lauren said. “There is a wide breadth of research that reviews frustrations with the performance appraisal process. The part that seems to bother people the most is the performance rating component. There are a lot of reasons to distort ratings (politics, fear of having to give tough feedback, not having enough time to complete effective ratings), but I was wondering if people simply aren’t comfortable with the process of making ratings. My dissertation investigated a construct called Performance Appraisal Discomfort.”
Lauren has been a full-time member of the team for just over a year, but prior to that, she served as a master’s level Intern with the organization. Of course, we saw then what the world knows now – that Lauren is driven, intelligent, passionate about improving workplace performance and appraisals, and a true asset to our team.
Today, Lauren provides Job Analysis, Survey Management, Talent Development, and Assessment and Selection in her role as Performance Management Consultant.
Congratulations, Dr. LaBat!
